Innovation:
The existing Helicopter stand lining was no longer suitable and had to be removed from the existing concrete surface. To remove the lines efficiently a satellite Hydro- Blasting vehicle attached to a Hydro-blasting Wagon was employed, this removed the line and any concrete particles that detached during the removal process. The Satellite Hydro-blasting unit would then catch all waste materials and send them back to the main Lorry unit where they were stored safely, therefore eliminating any FOD issues on the Live Airfield.
After the old line had been removed the New alignment was set out by a surveyor using GPS Satellite technology, this was then checked and pre-marked by the specialist Lining company using a state-of-the-art GPS Robot.
Epoxy resin yellow & black paint was then placed using Ride on applicators and Manual Prams, the Resin was a two-coat system thus the first layer had to cure before the second layer could be placed.
Upon completion a visit to the Airfield Tower took place to ensure all lines were present and correct and were visible by the Merlin Pilots as they entered the Dispersal area.
