MOD Gymnasium in Gloucester
Work included:
Installation of new infrastructure to connect the new building to the existing services network, including Electric, Communications, Foul & Storm Water drainage.
Excavation & pouring of concrete foundation pads with connecting strip foundations.
Testing and removal of large quantities of Inert material from site.
Concrete ground slab with insulation and reinforcing mesh.
Installation of new permeable asphalt access carriageway and permeable block paving footpath.
Construction of semi-permanent gymnasium building, consisting of an Aluminium super structure, Insulated floor & wall panels & PVC material roof.
Pouring of a liquid floor screed to create a smooth, continuous surface for the installation of the gym flooring.
Internal fit out of the new building with office space, physiotherapy room, accessible toilets and a storeroom.
Installation of electrical furniture including external feeder pillar, distribution board, sockets, internal, external & emergency lighting.
Installation and commissioning of an air handling system.
Installation of a fire alarm system incorporating beam smoke detectors.
Heavy duty, removal, steel bollards to protect the entrance of the gymnasium.
Low level illuminated bollards
Installation of high-performance Dura Train rubber flooring tiles with astroturf sled track.
Soft landscaping works to the surrounding area.
Erection of a timber framed bin store.
Liaising with Regional Building Control to gain C3 Certification.

Innovation: The project required the successful integration of a semi-permanent aluminium superstructure with a traditionally constructed internal fit-out, presenting several interface and sequencing challenges not typically encountered on conventional building projects. Working collaboratively with the manufacturer, structural specialists and the client's nominated design team, BPM developed bespoke construction details and practical on-site design solutions that improved buildability, reduced installation risk and ensured the project remained compliant with the design intent whilst maintaining programme certainty.
